New Player Trophy

In honor of Alice's 90th birthday and in recognition of the friendliness, compassion and good humor she has unfailingly shown new players throughout the years.

The trophy will be awarded in December of each year at the Vanderbilt Bridge Club Christmas party to the new player who has earned the most masterpoints at the Club during the year.

Award Eligibility

To be eligible for the award in a given year, the player must meet the following conditions:

(1) Only masterpoints earned at the Vanderbilt Bridge Club newcomer game during the year are considered in the total points.

(2) As of January 1st of the award year, the player cannot have been playing duplicate bridge in ACBL-sanctioned games or games sanctioned by other recognized duplicate bridge organizations for more than 1 year.

Award Procedures

Each year, the winner's name will be engraved on the base of the trophy and the winner will get to keep the trophy until December 1 of the following year, at which time the trophy will be returned to the Club for award to the next year's recipient.

In the event of a tie, the trophy will be awarded to the person who has played the most times at the Club during the year. If the tie is between two people who have each played the same number of times, both players' names will be engraved on the trophy and each player will get to keep the trophy for six months.

In addition to the trophy, the winning player will also receive Free Play vouchers for use at the Club. The number of Free Plays to be awarded in a given year will be at the discretion of the Club Director.

Also at the discretion of the Director, recognition in the form of Free Play vouchers may be given to other new players who distinguished themselves at the Club during the year.
